I haven't had much time in the past month to work on my Lex but heres what I got done so far. Last night I scratched the platform for the saluting guns in front of the funnel. The thing holding me up the most is the air group. Ive been trying to find out the air groups markings. The ship its self is almost complete just some rigging and detail work. My main concern is the water and planes now. Let me know what you guys think of the picture with the plane on deck. I stated painting the planes and noticed that the yellow wings looked to dark. So I'm trying to figure out now if I'm using the correct color.

<img...

In fact the base is still in my garage unused. Last time I had trouble trying to form waves out of the liquitex. My Lex is about 90% complete, except for the airgroup.
Now that I'm back from vacation and recovered from some minor surgery I had last week, I've been working on the Bismarck during my weekday lunch hour. I don't have any pictures this time (the ship is at the office and the camera is at home), but I have made a little more progress.

I've gotten a chunk of deck, on the port side, between A & B turrets planked. Phew...is this time consuming!! Certainly chews up my lunch hour fairly quickly. I've just about run out of the first group of planks I cut, so it will soon be time to cut some more.

Overall, I'd say the planking is coming out "okay"...but since this is my first attempt and a learning process, I'm not too unhappy with my efforts.

My local hobby club meeting is this Friday, and I plan to bring the Bismarck hull along to display, so pictures should follow shortly after that.

Well guys, I really haven't been aware of how much I have really been missing until I picked up my new monitor for the PC (17" Flat Widescreen LCD) and WOW, what a world of difference it makes when viewing all the images and photos! I also picked up a much higher end video card.

Jeremy, I went back and looked at your Arizona and was absolutely floored! It is an absolute Masterpiece and the detail is utterly amazing! Still speechless.

Martin, your carriers are impecable and so clean. I was always impressed, but "seeing clearly" has really opened my eyes to the great model building you do!

To everyone else in the Galleries, OUTSTANDING work. What great models and now I can't wait to get more going on here and in the galleries.
Looking for some Lex info again.

A while back I found a color picture of a old yellow winged biplane. It was sitting on a deck of a carrier, I'm not sure which one. Ive been looking all over the web tonight trying to find that same picture. I'm trying to get a general idea of how to paint all these planes. I'm also trying to find all the air group markings. I'm not sure if all the engine cowls and tails had the same markings. Also I'm trying to figure if the Lex had only 1 8" turret with the roof painted #20. On page 10 and 13 of the warship pictorial book it looks like the one closest to the stern was the only one with a dark turret top. The pic on page 10 is before the flight deck was widened the pic on page 13 is not dated. I'm just trying to figure out if any of them were painted dark in 38. I cant find any pictures showing them dark except the one turret. Thanks for any help, I'm going to keep looking.

Jeremy

Hello....hello.....hello

Is anyone been around or just too busy to say anything. Well I have been working on the Bismarck, but nothing to fancy to show just yet. Match parts up, marking locations for improvements and PE parts, checking fit and seams as well as writing out a plan format for progressive build instructions. I also made a list of just how much detail I will add and stick to it. I find that this keeps the project going smoothly and keep one sane. Once things start coming together, I will show some photos and do a Build Review of this project. Need to give everyone more interesting things to read here...LOL.
Best regards,

Dan

I just wanted to start a discussion on the Bismarck and all the ins and outs on the build. I know you just finished yours Jer and wondered what PE sets you used. And Martin, what PE sets will you be using? I am looking at the WEM PE sets, but not sure I want to use any for the light AA guns. I ordered the basswood strips to plank the decks, just have to wait for them to come in. I noticed that you secured your decks already Martin, and wonder how you plan to go about planking it that way. Jer, do you have photos of your Bismarck you would like posted to the gallery? Sure could use yours for reference...LOL.
Best regards,
Dan

I plan to do it as a diorama, as if it is coming in for landing on the carrier. A couple of challenges, but think I have it figured out so it will look as though it is totally suspended in air (or in actual flight).

However, I have a serious ship bug bite itching, so I will be getting started on my Tamiya Bismarck while I wait for A-7 parts.
