I know you just finished yours Jer and wondered what PE sets you used. And Martin, what PE sets will you be using? I am looking at the WEM PE sets, but not sure I want to use any for the light AA guns. I ordered the basswood strips to plank the decks, just have to wait for them to come in. I noticed that you secured your decks already Martin, and wonder how you plan to go about planking it that way. Jer, do you have photos of your Bismarck you would like posted to the gallery? Sure could use yours for reference...LOL. Best regards, Dan

Posts: 125 ( 6 July, 2007 11:23:16) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hey Dan, I am using the Gold Medal Models photo-etch set for the Bismark, plus the White Ensign Superstructure deck plates set and their Kreigsmarine portholes and doors set. As for the planking, well I'm sort of winging it!! I figured I'd lay down some margin planking along the edges of the superstructure first, then start laying planks from there. I did carve/sand/file off all the detail on the deck, so I'll have a clean palette to work with. I detailed the 01 deck with PE portholes and watertight doors, using both the GMM and WEM sets, then re-sprayed that area with Hellgrau. So, at this point, I'm ready to start planking. I just have to cut more planks, which I'll start doing at lunch next week. Once I have a big enough pile, I'll bring the Bismark's hull in and start at it. I second that request for pictures of your Bismark Jer!

Posts: 125 (16 July, 2007 10:37:44) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Here is how far along I've gotten. I've laid some margin planking around the edges of the superstructure and the main deck. If you look at pictures of the real ship, you can see the margin planking at the deck edge and along the bulkheads. I still have to do around the barbettes and the some of the curved sections of the 01 deck. I also laid some plank on the deck. This is all I'm going to do until I finish the margin planking - my local hobby club meeting was the other night, and I wanted to lay some plank just to show what madness I was up to The margin planking is 1x3 strips, the main deck is 1x2 strips. Since it's the first time I've attempted this, I'd say it's coming out 'okay', but not great. Hopefully it I'll get better as I move along. All comments/critiques/suggestions are welcome.

Thats one thing I didnt do on my Bismarck was the margin planking around all the superstructure. I wish I would have done it. I also forgot to add the black stripe on the base of the superstructure and around the barbettes. I was driving myself nuts with all the small detail, thats when I decided to do a quik kit and I started work on the Indianapolis. I plan on getting the Bismarck back out in the future. Jeremy

I'll post more photos when I make some more progress - right now I'm concentrating on finishing the margin planking. Your Bismarck looks great, Jer (as do the other ships)!! Hopefully you'll be able to finish it soon. Any photos of the Indianapolis?
