CPL Greg von Gartzen served as a member of F Troop, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment during Operations Desert Shield/Storm. Greg was assigned as a team leader and
M2 Bradley driver during the deployment to Saudi Arabia in September, 1990. On 22 February, F Troop led the Regiment across the berm into Iraq. In 100 hours,
the Regiment moved over 300 kilometers, and left remnants of three Iraqi Republican Guard Divisions in its wake. During which time, CPL von Gartzen engaged in
heavy fighting and received two Bronze Stars for his heroism under fire.
On 25 July 2006, Greg was a passenger in a vehicle which left the roadway after a tire failure, rolling several times, and causing a fatal wound to the head.
Greg is survived by his father Dan Sr, step-mother Annette, mother Rosemary and step-father Rob, daughter Nikki, brothers Dan Jr, Dennis, Eric, Brian and
Justin, grandmother Rose, grandfather Jim, and several Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
